Reception in Commemoration of the Great East Japan Earthquake's One-Year Anniversary

The Bascom Palmer Eye Institute sent their Vision Van to Japan to help those affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake

Their bilingual sign expressed The Bascom Palmer Eye Institute's best wishes to help and support their patients

Attendees viewed statistics from the Japan External Trade Organization as well as before-and-after pictures from the earthquake-affected area

Guests at this event included several of those individuals and organizations who donated their time, money, and energy towards relief and rebuilding efforts

Consul General Eiichi Kawahara presented the keynote address

In addition to confirming Japan's stability one year after the 9.0 earthquake, Consul General Kawahara also thanked everyone for their help, support, and good wishes

The official residence was decorated with images from Northeastern Japan, an area known as Tohoku

Celebrated violinist Junko Ohtsu performed a traditional folktune from Tohoku

There were many guests in attendance, offering their support one year after the major earthquake

The Honorable Tomas Regalado, Mayor of the City of Miami, spoke to the tight relationship between Miami and Japan, especially with its Sister City in Kagoshima

Guests, including violinist Junko Ohtsu as well as Deputy Consul General Sato and his wife, watched the speakers attentively

Mayor Regalado was joined by Consul General Kawahara as well as select members of the Miami-Kagoshima Sister City Committee, Isabel de Quesada and Jose Fuentes
