Message from Consul General Kenji Hirata on the occasion of the Emperor's Birthday

February 23, 2021

Dear Friends of Japan,
Today it is my great pleasure to celebrate with you all the 61st birthday of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan.
Every year we hold a reception to celebrate the Emperor's Birthday together with our friends, at which we can reunite and reaffirm our existing friendship. However this year, regrettably, we have decided to refrain from holding the reception due to ongoing complications stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Many cultural events in Florida, including Consulate events, have been canceled, postponed, or transferred to an online format since March of last year. Moreover, at this time travel to Japan is strictly limited, and we know that many people who were planning to travel to Japan, including those participating in the Japan Exchange and Teaching Program, are eagerly waiting for Japan’s reopening.
I sincerely hope that we all overcome this difficult time as quickly as possible so that we can once again travel, gather, and celebrate as before.
Stay safe and take care until then,

Kenji Hirata

Consul-General of Japan in Miami
