Remarks at Inaugural Celebration of MIA Mover
At 10:30am on September 8, 2011

Honorable Mayor Carlos Gimenez, Miami Dade County Commissioner, President of Odebrecht USA, and President of Parsons Transportation Group, Senior Vice President of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Vice President of Sumitomo Corporation America and Director of Miami Dade Aviation Dept, and my colleague ,Consul General of Brazil,
Ladies and gentlemen,

It is quite an honor for me to witness this morning the inauguration of “MIA Mover.”  Last July 15th, I was fortunate to be present at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Port of Miami Intermodal and Rail Connection Project, which will restore rail service between the Port of Miami and the Florida East Coast Rail Yard in Hialeah.
Today, I am very happy to be here at Miami International Airport, as a representative of Japan, for the inauguration of the automated people mover system “MIA Mover,” that will connect MIA’s terminal with the two main structures of the Miami Intermodal Center: the Rental Car Center and the Miami Central Station.  It is indeed gratifying to see the continuous development and growth of MIA, ever improving itself to make justice to its rightful title of the “Gateway to the Americas,” and I may like to add Europe as well.

The new “MIA Mover” is introduced to meet the needs of all airport users.  This Japanese transport system has been operating also at Washington Dulles International Airport and Atlanta International Airport.  This is an eco-friendly transportation system that has been operational in Asian hub airports such as Hong Kong International Airport, Changi International Airport in Singapore and Incheon International Airport in Seoul among others.
We look forward to seeing more of the Japanese transportation system introduced in Miami Dade County, for its high performance, advanced technology, eco-friendliness, fuel efficiency proven safety.
I would like to congratulate again all those who took part in making “MIA Mover” a reality that adds to Miami International Airport’s well known title of the Gateway to the Americas, an example of “Geography is Destiny” for its increasingly efficient ways of transporting and bringing together diverse cultures through diverse means.
Thank you
