2017 MEXT Undergraduate Student Scholarship Details

Deadline:
All application materials must be received by Wednesday, June 2, 2016.
In-person inverviews will be held at CGJ-Miami at the end of June.
Level of Studies:
Undergraduate Level
Eligibility Requirements:
*Applicants must have been born between April 2, 1995 and April 1, 2000 and have completed 12 years of school education or have completed courses in a school comparable to a high school. (Applicants who will meet the above qualifications by March 2017 are included.)
*Applicants must, in principle, be able to arrive in Japan between April 1 and April 7, 2017.
Duration of Program:
5 years including 1 year of Japanese-language training (7 years for medicine, dentistry and veterinary science)
Preliminary Japanese-language training:
1 year (Tokyo University of Foreign Studies and Osaka University of Foreign Studies)
Prior Japanese-language ability requirement:
No prior ability required.
Fields of Study:
Undergraduate education in an avaiable major
Placement:
University of applicant's choosing. Please be sure to write at least one university request on your application. Scholarship Stipend:
¥117,000 per month
(An additional monthly stipend of 2,000 or 3,000 yen may be provided to those undertaking study or research in specially designated regions.)
Tuition:
Tuition for national universities waived; tuition for public and private universities is paid for by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
Travel Allowance:
Roundtrip fare (economy class air ticket) is provided from the nearest international airport to your home to Japan. Please note that the address you write on your application is considered your home address and the ticket will be issued for the airport closest to that address. You will not be permitted to change departure locations.

Examination Requirements for Embassy Recommendation:
Japanese (for reference purposes), English, Mathematics, and world history or science (two out of the following three subjects: chemistry, physics or biology)
